The new unisex Kinship Short Kimono (pictured above) is adorned with an ethno-punk pattern, expertly crafted using the batik stamp technique- ensuring each kimono is a unique work of art.

Featuring traditional tribal patterns and ethnic prints, meticulously crafted and inspired by ancient myths and legends, connecting the wearer to a deeper, more primal essence. The styles embody stark yet fluid silhouettes—kimonos with wide, dramatic sleeves and open fronts, ponchos that wrap with rugged elegance, and sarongs that offer multi-functionality and wearing occasions. Tarnished metal studs and straps add an artisanal touch, evoking a sense of ancient craftsmanship and raw, primal power.

Tribal Odyssey Long Wrap Skirt

The new Heritage Long Wrap Skirt (pictured above) and the Sarong Short Skirt (pictured above worn as a shawl) are a perfect blend of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary style. Their versatility is endless - both can be worn as traditional skirts or experimented with different draping styles to create a unique look every time.

The collection is crafted from a high-quality rayon viscose, with a luxurious feel and great drape. The standout feature of this fabric is its natural crinkle, which adds texture and depth. The crinkles are created during manufacturing, where the cloth is woven with slight variations in tension. This gives it a naturally wrinkled appearance, adding artisanal irregularities and a soft, tactile feel.

Made from high-quality rayon viscose, it's known for its luxurious feel and great drape. Light and soft, this new fabric to the Psylo wardrobe is perfect for summer or beachwear and is a running theme in this fresh capsule release.

The standout feature of this fabric is its natural crinkle, which adds texture and depth for a unique and sophisticated look. The crinkles are created during manufacturing, where the fabric is woven with slight variations in tension. This gives it a naturally wrinkled appearance, adding visual interest and a soft, tactile feel. This lightweight fabric is perfect for warm weather, thanks to its breathability. The rayon viscose base feels silky smooth against the skin, and the built-in crinkle ensures the fabric keeps its shape and character, even with frequent wear.

Crinkled Rayon drapes beautifully, making it ideal for flowing Kaftans, Kimonos ponchos and beach dresses. This fabric features a subtle polished sheen, which gives it a super luxurious yet casual look. It is also easy to care for; The natural crinkle minimises the appearance of wrinkles, so you can maintain that polished look with minimal effort.

Old Tradition, New Prints: Batik Stamp

Traditional batik stamp technique Traditional batik stamp technique

The Tribal Odyssey release is a homage to the Batik technique - a local tradition in Bali (photos above by Agto Nugroho and Mahmur Marganti on Unsplash

Another running theme of the Tribal Odyssey release is the Balinese batik stamp technique. Also known as "batik cap", it is a traditional method of creating intricate fabric patterns using a copper stamp and wax-resist dyeing. In this process, a stamp dipped in hot wax is pressed onto fabric to create a resist pattern. The fabric is then dyed, with the wax preventing colour from penetrating the stamped areas. This can be repeated with different dyes for multi-coloured designs. After dyeing, the wax is removed, revealing the detailed patterns.

Traditionally, Balinese batik patterns are often inspired by nature, mythology, and local culture, including floral motifs, animals, and abstract designs. This craftsmanship of using copper stamps allows for consistent, repeatable patterns, and is ideal for creating large quantities of fabric with uniform and intricate designs. While the colours of traditional batik are usually earthy tones like brown, indigo, and black, contemporary versions may incorporate brighter colours. complementing the Psylo range, our designs inspired by this technique are keeping to a minimalistic palette of black, white and olive. These earthy colours are included in the Tribal Odyssey designs, following a Yin-Yang minimalism of two tones.

For the Tribal Oddessy capsule of summer wear, our design team created three new bold prints. These new patterns are inspired by natural or tribal designs, and are named after the three Indonesian islands; Komodo, Java and Lombok.
